An hour at a time

I went in this morning to check on the babies. One of the challenges the babies face is their skin is incredible fragile and so they are trying to put monitoring equipment on the babies without tearing the skin and risking potential infections.

Doctors indicated that mason had episodes where his heart rate would drop and then raise again. They gave him morphine to see if it was any pain he was in that was causing his heart rate to drop. There have also been issues with the tube connected to the umbilical cord which is how they draw blood or give medicine. They were trying to decide to connect to an artery in the foot or arm if the umbilical cord would not cooperate.

Carter had an episode where his oxygen level dropped and they think there was an obsruction with the breathing tube so they adjusted it and his oxygen levels went back up. There are some concerns with bleeding in the brain which is fairly common for new borns at this stage.

Maija-Liisa has had 2 respiratory sessions with her breathing toys trying to get her oxygen level high enough where she doesn't need oxygen assistance for breathing. She is feeling some discomfort from the incision in her abdomen from the C-section.

we will be changing rooms shortly out of labor and delivery into a recovery room where we will be for the next few days.

We were given permission by our bishop to give the babies a name and a blessing if we wanted to. This is something that hadn't even crossed our minds. I don't know when would be the appropriate time to do that.
